Stock 7M-GTE clutch & PP vs ACT HDSS for R154 swap to NA 2JZ-GE
I have searched this quite a bit and I only get more threads related to elevated horsepower.
I am gearing up for an R154 swap into my SC300 5-speed *before* changing the engine. I have a few good reasons for doing this but suffice to say I don't need the torque holding of an expensive clutch at my relatively tame 2JZ-GE power levels. Yet.
7M-GTE's had 230hp/240ft-lbs against their factory clutches which is only slightly more than a 2JZ-GE.
So given that a decent 1JZ/7M clutch for turbo application is a good $600+ I'm interested in using the factory Toyota 7M-GTE clutch when it comes time to bolt in the R154.
However, I'm a fan of the ACT HDSS clutch for my W58 over the factory W58 SC3/MKIV NA clutch on my NA engine.
Would the 7M-GTE clutch be comparable to the ACT W58 clutch or is it still inferior in longevity and driving feel compared to... well... ANY other clutch given such low power levels?
I realize most people do this all in one go and I'd appreciate what you guys think given that I want to take my work on my car step-by-step like this.
Thanks!
