Default Help Needed narrowing possible causes for my idle problem

Hello CLexus!

So I recently dropped in a stock 2j into my 300 shell and I'm coming across an issue. I've come across multiple issues already, but I've gotten a lot of them figured out. Obvious issues I can figure out, BUT >>> I'm coming across something that can be a multitude of LITTLE things.

I don't seem to have the cold start function working properly. On a cold start, the car will start and immediately die. If I rev it while cranking and keep revving when it catches, it'll run fine. I have to keep revving it though.
Once the car warms up to op temp, it'll idle OKAY. not GREAT, but okay. it also smells a bit rich.

I feel like this issue can be caused by so many little things, that I don't really know the SIMPLEST place to start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks CLexus.
