aftermarket muffler
Ive been looking around for an aftermarket muffler for my lexus sc400. Ive tried searching this board already so please don't tell me to do that.
I don't really know much about mufflers or anything like that, but ive seen some advertised on ebay that add 10-15HP.
Ive been thinking about buying a set of them but I would like to know if there is any other mufflers that are better?
Also they sell for around $150 and maybe there is cheaper ones? If so, is there a place where I could but it online?
There isn't much support for stuff like that in my city.
Thanks,
Will

IMO you should really be looking for a cat. back exhaust (if that's what you mean). I was looking at cat. back systems for my car (JDM Soarer 2.5GT) and a cat. back exhaust is said to improve power by 15~20kw, or around 20~27hp. There are many exhaust systems out there, but preferably I would stick with something custom made, so you can choose which mufflers/resonators/cat you want to use etc.
The system I'm planning to get for mine (my Soarer's more like the SC3) is from turbos back, with twin dump pipes into a collector before the cat, with piping and twin resonators (most probably keeping the stock ones) and splitting into twin outlets with 4" tips. This system is said to increase Soarer 2.5GT power from a stock 138rwkw to around 163rwkw with an A'PEXi S-AFC (I'm picking that up probably next week hopefully!), or around 185rwhp to 218rwhp. This type of system costs (in Australia) $1400 from a reputable exhaust specialist (known for their quality work), so it should cost around $700~$800 over there in the USA.
PS. I reckon it's worth going a bit extra out of your way to get better quality than trying to look for somewhere local that you know doesn't make that good quality IMO.

Also remember that horsepower gains on an SC400 will not be nearly as high as on a turbocharged soarer. Just because of the fact that turbo engines love big exhausts, and the less restrictive the exhaust, the better(to a point).

BTW... 163kw at the rears with that type of exhaust is a tad low. I've got a 3" cat back making 170kw. I have the standard dump pipe and CAT as well. But all dyno's are different so numbers mean nothing
Get a 3" custom exhaust. With twin Super Draggers if you're boosted. I wouldnt have a clue as to what exhaust size to use for an N/A car.

Our US SC4s come with pretty decent mufflers stock;all are straight through design, stainless, and changing them will create more noise than performance, unless you've got some really trick engine parts we don't know about.
I've read recently about removing the center muffler(closest to front of car)to gain some good power, but haven't seen any dyno printouts yet.

yup
Mines a 3" cat back. I've got a sealed custom aluminium airbox and pod hidden inside. Also a bit more boost.
But as I said. Dyno figures arent the best way to see how good a car is. Australian dyno's take 30% loss whilst American dyno's take 15% loss. So Australian dyno figures are always lower than our US counterparts.
