Default Do you guys want 2JZ-GTE and V160 6 speeds?

Hi,

just looking through the forums, it looks like a lot of people are after 2JZ-GTE and V160 Getrag 6 speeds.. I am in Australia, but might know a guy who can get these from Japan. Can you tell me what the going prices are for these items in USA and Australia? If it looks like it's viable, I will look into getting some if that's what you guys want?? Just need to know what I can easily get for them.

For 8K you can have Signal Auto in Ca do the swap for you. For that price you get the 6spd too. They said they would do an auto to 6spd for just a few houndred more.

99% sure $7500 is just labor ... you still have to buy the parts.

Nope, but I spoke to them concerning the ad and that's what they want for labor.

So.... any hints on what these parts are worth???

I keep hearing they are in such huge demand but noone will tell me what they are willing to pay so I can see if that covers getting them from Japan and sending them over.

Are you selling front clips or are you selling eng/tranny/ecu?

Would you want front clips? I was thinking of just getting the engines / transmissions / ECUs....

CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT PRICES THEY GET ????????

If there's no interest, then I might just forget the whole thing and have a go at turboing a 1UZFE

yeah, really. i want to make the car haul. and if i can't put a manual on my v8, i might as well just replace it all. why not get the tight engine and a tight tranny? like what are the prices for the parts, not the labor?

It all depends on a number of things such as
  • Is it JDM spec? If so, there probably won't be much interest at all as the wiring is different, and replacement parts need to be ordered from Japan
  • Is it the 2.5 or the 3.0?
  • Is it new or used? There are lots of JDM spec motors coming over used. The Japs have some kind of law that engines must be replaced at around 40k miles for emissions reasons.
  • Do they come with any kind of warranty?
  • What's the time frame from ordering to delivery?
It's hard to judge prices or interest without more details, although I have to warn you that my experience with the CL members is that there's a lot of talk until it comes time to put up some $$$
As for ballpark prices, I've seen used 2JZ-GTE engines go on eBay for anywhere from $2,500 to $4,000 depending on condition and parts supplied with them.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, this is all from Japan. I would be looking at getting 2JZGTE 3 litre engines out of MKIV supras, with V160 Getrag 6 speed gearbox, shafts, diff and ECU(s). I was beginning to suspect that this was the case... everyone moans for Supra parts in the Soarer, but it's just too big a cost and job to actually do.

I wouldn't have thought the Japanese origin would really matter.. the only real differences are the steering, the air flow sensor and the turbos.... which would probably be replaced on arrival anyway... the ECU if it blows up (not likely) could be replaced aftermarket too. No I would not offer a warranty. I'm not KMart, I'm just a guy who was going to help people source used parts where they can't normally get them. Let me tell you from the mileage of some cars coming over here... they drive cars WAY over 40k miles.

Time frame? I dunno, I get stuff in 2 weeks from Japan, but something is wrong with stuff getting in and out of the USA.. it's taking most of my stuff 9 to 11 weeks at the moment.

I think engines are probably a bit too much trouble, but the transmissions could be viable. Surely there aren't any differences?? I will be having a go at putting either a R154 or V160 behind a 1UZFE, or an entire 2JZGTE-V160 powertrain in my car. After I do that, maybe I could send some transmissions over there... I don't think you have the Soarer R154 there? And I know V160s are in short supply.
