Default timing belt scooting itself off

hey guys, was messing around under the hood an noticed my timing belt is starting to slip itself off the cam gears, this worries me as i just re assembled the engine a very short time ago.

Anyone know whats causes this? could it be a bad tensioner? its only got like 30k on it.

when you reassembled the motor, did you reuse the old tensioner? If so i would advise you to go change that and new belt. Check all pullys for wear and breakage while in there.

when you say you just reassembled the motor , was the timing cog removed and reinstalled . if the timing cog is not 100% on it will produce the results you describe . i use a huge socket the size of the cog and knock it on evenly and squarely to ensure its 100% on .

this is the timing cog with the reluctor wheel , if its not 100% on and even it will cause the belt to misalign with cam gears

O, that looks like the cam gear right? So take em off and re seat them?

that must be why one looks "wobbly" right?

no this cog mounts onto the snout of the crank behind the crank pulley itself .. if motor was rebuilt , this would have been removed

yes , if gog is not 100%on the snount , it will not line the belt up with the cam gears and the belt will walk off ..came gears tend to be alittle wobbly as ive seen that from time to time .. if its excessive then you have something else going on

so i got it all ripped down in about a half an hour and turns out the nut on the tensioner pulley was gone, pretty much the only thing keeping the belt on was the dang plastic cover haha
