Chaser? 1j in sc
Soo, I got a good deal on a front sump 1j for my 96 sc300.
I'm wanting to keep the auto tranny, pretty much just a stock swap for now.
Still not 100% sure what the engine came out of exactly, it was listed as soarer/aristo/chaser.
But I know it's not a soarer engine because of the rear sump, and the wiring harness was cut at the bulk where it came through the firewall, so I couldn't know the amount of pin rows for the ecu plugs. I could use some help identifying what exactly it came out of...
Anyways, I've heard wiring can be a rat bastard on the chaser swaps, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if I have the sc wiring harness and soarer ecu, most of the sensors should be in the same place I would think?
Thanks

whats up dude...... congrats on the 1j...lol. i believe if im not mistaken the soarer ecu should have 4 slots going across, if its a soarer harness it should have an ik1 orange plug, but in this case you said its chopped off at the plugs. do you have the ecu? There is a thread on here that gives the info you are requesting... its not that hard of a swap. GL!!!

goog luck with the swap no matter which engine it is. I think the one I put in my 93 sc was out of a chaser. Its the newer one though with vvti and single turbo. I used the stock ecu trans and wiring harness from the swap. The wiring was kinda a nightmare. lol

Okay, so i believe the engine is from a chaser. but thats aside the point because i dont have a functional chaser harness or a chaser ecu... Could i run the soarer ecu with my sc harness?
If so... ill need to extend the harness, and what other wiring would be involved?
Im not sure why the chaser 1j is being made out to be a wiring nightmare to some people, maybe im overlooking a few main points.
Im sure its all on the web somewhere, but im having trouble finding the info here that i need.
any help?

The chaser harness isn't any harder to do than a soarer, people are just lazy.....
either way, as for the harness you have, just about every identifying portion of the harness has been cut off. Any 1JZ harness will work on that engine, but will need modification to work in your SC chassis.

...also from what i read the chaser and soarer ecu's are the same, just a difference in auto and manual ecu's.
so would it matter which engine harness i bought, just as long as i get an auto ecu?
Kind of repeating what you just told me, tweak, but just trying to understand a little better lol

The Chaser harnesses will have 2 of the ECU plugs missing, and they will need wired in, and also the body plugs changed. The Soarer harnesses have all 4 of the ECU plugs, but will need altered to work in a USDM chassis. There ARE write ups on the forums...but I've looked through about half of them, and had to turn away because of all the false information.

what car is this from? is its from an earlier chaser like a jzx90? cause I think all the newer chaser motors I see look different
please excuse my stupidity, and good luck with the swap, I would love to have a 1j
