This thread has gotten very interesting. I just dropped mine in and reused the stock shims. I was within specs on both the OEM and the BC 264 specs on both sides, intake and exhaust. I didnt ever drive the car before the tune was done. I could only imagine how the 1JZ would be without the stage 2 cams. I thought the stage 3 would be too aggressive for me and my HP goal at the time.

I wonder if the reason you all are seeing 50rwhp gains is due to Jdm limiting cams. I know the Jdm cams on the supra sucks compared to us cams. When I put in my jun 264 I picked up about 30 but at the cost of low end. If u look at dyno curves, all you are realy doing is moving the air from the lower rpm and moving it to the higher rpm. I logged my spool time and picked up 150rpm lag @ 1 bar on a 67mm turbo.

For sure^^ The stock cams are worthless and even looking at them is a joke as you can plainly see they have no duration since the lobes are pointy .

what about what i've read. people using 2jzgte cams, and just having the end of the cam where the number one Camshaft cap is machined down to fit inside a 1j head.

does that yeild any practical numbers? or better to get the BC 264s

Even 264's would be a sizeable upgrade over usdm cams even, However I as a rule jump to 272's right off the bat as I hate to do a cam job twice

Yep 272 all the way ! so you don't have to pull everything off again, and don't forget the billet tensioner bracket.

WAIT!!! Heres a question. would changing the cam-shafts-gears affect the numbers on a cylinder compression test??

The two cars that started this thread , the owners have both stated that there has been no loss of mid range and the boost comes on at a similar point, but hits harder. I will try to post a comparison dyno graph.

As the builder of both cars I can assure you both are on bone stock bottom ends.
The white SC is on a set of 264's
the black SC is on 272's with a port and polish and a full head job.
