The K&N intakes are some of the better ones on the market, even though price might not be ideal for everyone. Dr Tweak just put the K&N Typhoon system on his 2008 IS-F and the sounds...oh the sound!! The kit also came with 2 dynographs to show power increase. On a 2008 IS-F it showed a 28hp gain at the wheels. Now, I'm not saying that bolting this to a 20 year old 1UZ will show that much of a gain, but if you're looking for something to help let your engine get more air, it's not a bad item.

The downfall I've read about putting these on the SC's is that the SC already having a cold air intake installed, is drawing in "cool" air whereas these retrofit kits that place the filter in the engine compartment are drawing in much hotter air since they're right in the engine bay (the ones I've seen are just inches from the intake manifold and not that much further from the exhaust manifolds which are really cookin'. If it's a showpiece you're looking for then do what fits your taste, but if it's power gains you're looking for I would guess that money could go elsewhere to bring about HP gains.

Thank you guys for your input, just got the SC400 a couple of days ago, and I did find that it is in essence a CAI and I know of the BFI but they seem SOOO sketchy

I am certainly skeptical of horsepower claims on all CAIs. Usually these claims have been paired with some other change or upgrade. Most of these are bling upgrades and only offer a nominal increase by themselves.

I just received a big Sewell shipment today, including an OEM panel filter for only $16 plus whatever portion of the shipping cost it accounted for. I'm not familiar with "airhog" but the Frams I've seen are more in the $20 range.
I took my K&N panel filter out after having MAF problems. I would have to agree with those who say don't put any oiled air filter in the older SCs.

I can get one on a closeout deal for $20.00. I see lots of other people talking about putting K&N filters on, so i guess theres no worries. Just want to be sure since our MAFs are expensive. BTW the Fram Airhog is a copy of a K&N. cotton gauze media coated with filter oil.

It makes sense that it would depend on the type of air flow meter that a given car has. I beleive if I word it right using the search bar that in conjunction with the BFI info, there is a flow chart for various brand filters. I dont beleive the Amsoil dry was in the test. Am going to look at that again and look at some pricing on the amsoil.
