Feels fine to me. Heres a vid from last week if it helps at all. Honestly it feels like this combo was meant to be as far as gearing goes.

I see so you have to change the whole tailhousing. I thoguht the shifter bolt pattern on top did not look the same as the black cover on the 350z. interesting stuff might be worth it to swap out or just pick up a xterra 2wd trans

I guess there is one on ebay for like $900 but its a 4x4. I thought it was wrong before cause of the shape of the shifter but if the tail housing is different then this is prob the right one at least shifter wise to get an idea where it comes out. obviously you would want a 2wd version.

Most of us 350z guys go 3.3 auto diff when boosted. CD009 with 3.5 rear and turbo makes first gear absolutely useless. The 3.26 will be the best option for the boosted SC's.

Not sure what picture that is but I don't think it's the 6-speed trans. You should be able to reuse the tail shaft assembly.

It might be the 5-speed found in the 4-cyl trucks.

its the 6 speed but its the 4x4 so the rear has a place to bolt on a transfer case instead of the 2wd driveshaft.
Its the exact same way they do it on the toyota trucks when reusing the w56 or the r151 on the 4x4 vs the 2wd, tail shaft is different.
basically the tail shaft is different on 2wd and 4x4, but the shifter and placement is the same.

If you follow the other link to the bottom where it says 6 speed, you will see the 2wd on top and the 4wd on bottom, shifter is exact same but you want the 2wd version obviously. just showing that pic for shifter placement because I could not find a pic of a 2wd 6spd xterra trans.

I can't help but think when I look at those pictures, like that would be the perfect spot for the shifter to come up in our cars.
and its not the same bolt pattern as the black cover on the 350z trans, so you would need the whole tailshaft from Xterra or a custom shifter part made for the 350z one.

So if I were to do this on my current setup, it's probably safe to assume I'd need to get my current driveshaft lengthened.

Not to be a downer, but I feel like I did enough discovery being one of the first to install this sucker into an SC300. And my not-so-ideal shifter is turning out to be fine for me. After all that work, I'm just going to enjoy it as-is for awhile. If someone spends money buying these parts and figures out how to make it work, maybe I'll change it in the future. Until then, I'm leaving good-enough alone on my car.

FYI, that black cover is right about where the existing 5-spd tunnel hole is, so I agree that'd probably be pretty damn good shifter placement.

Also taking this post from my project thread and putting over here as well. I was just using some cheapo off the shelf trans fluid at first until I felt like all the bugs were worked out. So now that I feel good about this setup, yesterday I swapped out the off the shelf trans fluid and am running this Amsoil cocktail in it. Today is my first day driving with the new fluid. It could just be my brain playing tricks on me, but I feel like I can already feel a difference and it feels even better. I had this combo suggested to me by one of the sponsors over on BITOG.

I'm also running Amsoil 75W-110 SVT in the SC430 rear diff. So far so good, but I haven't started laying down any real power yet so it hasn't really been put to the test yet.

Yeah I totally understand Halon, you def have helped tremendously so far and with posting details and pictures wouldn't even be looking at this or trying to help further it without alot of that initial effort. I would be tired as well after swapping out a trans just once so I totally understand but for others and the "custom" shifters people are making I am thinking for future swappers (potentially myself) why not just goes to the parts counter and order the tailshaft parts and try it out or even just pick up an xterra 2wd trans and try it, vs doing something custom that is not ideal.

a year ago if someone told me about putting an Xterra trans in my car I would have probably laughed for a good 30 minutes... but now its really sounding like a great idea. I wonder if they have the CD00X numbers to watch out for or whatnot, or if all of them are the later version cause all the xterra 6 spd trans are 05+. I have driven a 05+ 6 spd Xterra is the funny thing my buddy had one, trans always felt nice but throws were large truck throws, but I think a short shifter from another nissan vehicle might do the trick, or just going custom on that one part.

once someone else perfects it then you can go back and do yours maybe, but if it works currently I agree I wouldn't mess with it on a hunch like this, but maybe another member might go for it in the meantime.

looks like the main difference is 1st gear on the Xterra. I think this with a 3.2 diff might actually work alright, or at least good for burnouts.
gear - Xterra - 350z
1st - 4.37 - 3.79
2nd - 2.52 - 2.32
3rd - 1.74 - 1.62
4th - 1.28 - 1.27
5th - 1.00 - 1.00
6th - 0.77 - .79

Oh yuck on that 1st gear. I don't think I'd want 1st any shorter than wht it is right now (I'm on a 3.2 diff). But I tend to like longer lower gears in general since I do mostly drag racing and it helps with traction.

I'm always keeping my eye out for a sweet deal on a second 350z trans to have as a back-up. I wouldn't even mind if it was an older CD00x version since it'd act as just a back-up. If I end up scoring one for a good deal, maybe then I could look into some of these things since I'd have a spare to play with sitting on the floor.

I installed my Autometer GPS speed sensor tonight. Followed the generic instructions on how to cal it to any speedo and the cal appeared to work as designed on the stock speedo. Now just need to take it for a spin and make sure it works!

Had this shared to us on another forums. HIGHLY doubt they try to make anything for sale though. I am curious as to what shifter they hacked up and welded/or whatever to the shaft

nice find but they are saying 1.5 further back then the remote shift w58, then you will need a custom shifter still that has 2x 90 bend in it. alot closer than before but still not quite there. I rather be 1.5"-3" shorter than the stock remote shift version on our cars and use a slightly bent shifter like the 1st gen soarer r154 does.

Speed sensor appears to be working. I only took it up to about 30mph but the speedo matched the cars gps. Little bit if lag as expected but perfectly fine for me.
