Squeal On Startup - SC300 - Crank Pulley, Video Inside!
So on the new motor I got from a member on here, there was a crank pulley that I decided to tank a chance on using being I didn't have time to get my old "new" one off (that I had just put on the other motor before pulling it).
I heard a squeak on start up yesterday and I immediately recognized the distinctive belt slip noise. I borrowed a friends impact gun (SnapOn) and hammered the "old" brand new one off my other motor and brought it up to his shop.
We pulled the radiator (which by the way, you can pull the brackets, shroud, and fan) and capped the ends of the radiator quickly and keep most of your fluid) and removed the crank pulley and popped the new one on - you'll see why most people get stranded with this...this one was ready to fly off the harmonic balancer.
Overall, it took us about thirty minutes total time to swap...but we also had air tools and two of us. The motor was still scolding hot, so we could have gotten it done faster, plus I forgot my handy strap wrench for the clutch fan so had to utilize an old belt to hold it still!
An easy way to check to see if your harmonic balancer and pulley are slipping is to take some white out, put a line down the front of the pulley face start the car and run it for a minute then turn it off and make sure the line is still solid and hasn't separated.
