Default Sealing auto trans tunnel on 5 speed swap

Hey guys,

I had a 5 speed swap done to my SC back in October and haven't really got around to sealing the automatic transmission tunnel. Now that I got some time, I'm looking at the best possible way to make that tunnel sound proof. I was thinking about using some dynamat along with some sheet metal.

I couldn't really find much on this through searching, but if you guys know of a thread that covers this topic, please post the link here. Thanks

Why are you sealing it?

It gets loud inside of the cabin of the car from the tunnel where the auto trans comes out of. The manual trans comes out of a new tunnel a few inches forward that was drilled out.

You need to cut a small piece of sheet metal, run a bead of rtv sealer around the overlapping joint, and pop rivet it into place. I did that on mine and it worked perfect.

How much sound do you think it eliminated? I don't really see how a piece of sheet metal alone can silence the sound that much.

It does make a difference, but you will see even more difference if you are running the inner and outer shifter boot covers. I can hear the faintest whine in some gears, but it is very low level and by far the noisiest thing in my cabin is the Walbro 255 I am running.

I am going to do mine the same way. Cut a piece of sheet metal out, mark and measure it, drill it out, then seal it.. Drive!!
