Default What are your ideas on this? 400 issue

Things to remember: Antifreeze was full....oil was changed 1 day before trip, I changed all 8 spark plugs the day before, replaced both ignition coils.

I was driving from GA to MS. I get about 50 miles from home and car running hot. I pull over and the overflow tank is (whining).. i knew i needed more coolant. I get some and pour into the 17mm hole above the thermostat. I get back on road and go about 20 more miles... mind you i let the car cool off and made sure i was full and that i didnt have any lose hoses on radiator. and the same d*** thing happened again. It happened a 3rd time and i eventually had to call AAA because I could not deal with it.

Why could i be losing coolant when there is none visibly leaking? Oil also was going away slowly (checked the stick at every stop and had to add some at 2nd stop).. My only guess could be something to do with head gasket?

All help greatly appreciated..

Something bad is happening. Does your rev wander on idle? I agree with Intimazy, think its headgasket. Sounds very similar to when the headgasket went on my chrysler 300

You need to be able to get to bottom of the crank pulley and wash off the area under it with degreaser so it is nice and shiny and clean on the oil pan and the area under the pulley. Put oil and water in the car, start it and warm it to operating temp, shut it off and look under the car at the crank pulley. That's where the water pump will drain in a little hole in the black cover if your pump is leaking and also where oil will come down if your cams seals or front main has let go.

This is what it looks like cleaned off, but with a bad front main seal. This will be coolant if the water pump has started leaking from the bearing.

OH and PS, there is a coolant tube that runs from the rear of the engine to the front through the center of the engine under the intake. Take a flashlight and look under the intake in the center of the engine down where the starter is. On mine I had a coolant leak towards the front and the rest was dry because the center has sections so it won't ALL be wet like a tub. You may find coolant in there in one of the sections.

Update: car will not turn on. When I turn the key it just churns (turns over but not cruelly crank)

My uncle works on greyhound buses and my car was towed to his house. He says that all the head gaskets are gone or it's a blown motor.

How do I tell I the motor is gone? The car smelled a little bit like smoke tody (dad after it was towed). I fou that really odd.

I did fill up the coolant and made sure oil was in the car.

I was thinking of getting AAA or someone to tow it to Toyota dealership jut for them to tell me what is wrong. Definitely don't want em to do the work.

I have no recent CEL codes that I didn't have. Same basic ones 14, 15, 27, and 31 but had them before the trip.

I talked to a guy today that has a motor from a 97 ls400 for $800 and he said he could put it in for the total of $1500. Is that a good price and is the ls400 motor even compatible with the 92sc400?

Thank you guys again for your input I really appreciate it
