sc300jz's 5spd swap
#21
Just resurfaced my flywheel today. $25, not that bad! Took around 45 minutes. 13 more days till i pull the tranny!
Ah i think i know what you mean the dead pedal all the way on the left side correct? Well its suppose to be clipped into the side, but i unclipped it so i had more room to work with.

im confused what dead pedal? lol hey sick car man and i for one really appreciate the diy effort and pics. without this and other swap tutes guys like me would never get this kinda job done. just no way i can afford to pay a shop 3k or whatever price they want. but i can afford to do it myself. thanks brother. keep it up. do you think this job could be done in a weekend with everything ready prepared and a helper? by an inexperienced guy.

If you are not mechanically inclined at ALL then do not do this.
Do little stuff first till you are comfortable doing better things. Make sure your helper knows some stuff to and you'll be good.

cool thanks man. i am pretty confident i could do it. just never cracked open a tranny and rebuilt it. but i am not intimidated by it just need to go ahead and do some studying and be well prepared. thanks for the reply and just for fun what have you spent to get this off the ground? because my local tranny shop estimated me around 3k for a 5 speed swap including a full rebuild. i thought it was ridiculous. and thats not including the tranny and swap parts. just the rebuild kit and labor. this could save me from selling my sc just to go out find a 5 speed one. for a price i really cant afford. but i am truly bored with the auto it just plain sucks.

I agree man. Great stuff. I love my blk on blk 95 sc300 but I too am getting bored with the auto. I sold my single turbo 1st gen 3000 gt to get this car but I miss the shifting and the Pshhh every time the boost spooled up . The lexus will get there but I'm not sure if I will have the swap done or just sell mine and buy a factory 5 SPd to modify. Decisions decisions

@sc300jz: Yes by the dead pedal I mean the foot rest all the way on the left. It seems like you have still have the carpet for the automatic and the footrest on the automatic sticks out a little further than the one on the manual carpet, thus getting in the way when you're stepping on the clutch. I guess you could clip it into the side, hopefully it doesn't get all bunged up and look weird.

Lol at this, if you have done this before you know, you forgot to mention get the first aid kit, as you will cut your hands arms up without gloves. Nice write up, should help others complete theirs.
