I can't. Also tried to put the shifter back but in won't shift. Something is stuck.

I agree that you should be able to pop that rod out. It may take a little bit of effort with a screwdriver or something, but it should move. Don't go crazy on it and break something, but its just a shift rod. Unless you see something on the other end of it binding it should move with a little effort.

So i did it with a screwdriver in 1.2 seconds . Scratched my head after that.

I really appreciate your help stockhatch

I have another R154 coming for a spare, I'll compare them about that play.

you seriously need to know what your doing when going through a r154. you pulled 5th gear off and moved one of the shifter forks.
