gas in the oil??
ok guys, im in need of a little help. i started tearing down the motor in my sc because it has a blown head gasket...i believe. when i drained the oil it was extremely thin as if water was mixing with it but then i realized that it smelled of gas as well. would the gasket being blown allow gas to get into the oil? i know it could be from numerous things. i probably wont get to work in it again til this weekend but i figured id give you guys a shot at diagnosing whats up. on a side note the coolant didnt seem to be mixing with the oil at all and the smoke that the car was producing smelled of oil but wasnt blue but was white, which is what lead me to the gasket.
anyways thanks for the help guys, any input is appreciated.

Could be a leaky injector. Gas will seep right past the rings.
I've had this happen in my Starion before.
The gas/oil mix will spin a bearing faster than anything, as the gas dilutes the oil.
Also a faulty ecu temp sensor will make you run too rich and you can get gas in the oil.

i think a few members here have had bad ECUs that caused extremely rich conditions and white smoke. If too much gas is getting into the combustion chamber some of that will mix with the oil and thin it out. Thin oil can then begin to leak past seals and get into the combustion chamber and burn off, as you described. I hate to say it, but you might have a bigger issue than a blown head gasket. It might be time to start looking underneath the motor at the crank and check for a spun bearing.

yeah i am somewhat worried about a spun bearing with the oil being so thin. at this point im woking on getting the head off to see if the gasket really is shot. ive got a guy who works for toyota and used to work as a tech back in the 90s, about when the car was produced, and he said it could be the head gasket and the injectors are just over compensating for the leak. which leads to the oil being filled with gas and then it being so thin that it gets into the combustion chamber and burning. whos knows though there are so many possibilities.
if the motor requires too much work or machining ill just get a new one, the ge is fairly cheap
