Change Water Pump on SC 400 without messing with the timing belt
Is it possible to change my water pump without touching the timing belt?
I looked at the forum and found very useful article, but nowhere specifies my question.
Thank you.

A lot of times people replace the belt and don't replace the water only to get screwed over when they have a messed up water pump or a leaking cam seal at, say, 130k miles. Do it at once and save the headache. Cardinal Rule: Maintenance over Mods

I have replaced mine on my 400 once and its alot of time and patience. You will be glad you did it while you are in there. I would also flush the coolant, change plugs, wires, and and three of the seals while you're there. Heres a perfect link for the 400.. Let us know how it goes. Its for the LS400 but same principle. Good Luck... To get the crank pulley off, I would slide a 22mm socket with the longest ratchet I could find, then slide a very long piece of pipe over the ratchet, and wedge it under the drivers side frame of the car, then BUMP the starter, DO NOT crank it... Then will loosen the crank pulley like butter!

Thank for everyone input. I was wondering if the water pump was only serpentine belt driven therefore replace for an hour or so, but I guess I will have to run all the 10 yards.
Thanks

lexls. tutorial info is good stuff. I ran into a problem. Step 33, my crankshaft does not have any white mark to start with. It have a " U " ingraved in the metal. I have a pic posted in the performance and maintenance section. should i use this to set the timing or should this mark be at 12, 3, or 6 o'clock.
