Post Timing Belt

What is the most I should pay for a timing belt replacement?I have also been told by several different people, the water pump is not to be changed when the timing belt is replaced. I have been given a quote from one dealer for $1050 for the 90k service (includes the timing belt, but not the water pump). Another dealer told me $825 for just the timing belt AND water pump. Any suggestions? Thanks for any info!!!!!

Default timing belt

People replace the water pump with the timing belt because of the labor involved. So if a dealer will replace the pump and belt for less money it is a no brainer

As allredxiii said, definitely do both at the same time so that you don't pay twice for the same labor. Water pump is cheap (compared to the labor it costs to install it). I would make sure that the new pump is Lexus OEM new part (not re-conditioned). You don't necessarily have to get this stuff done at the dealer's , since it is a purely mechanical job and any good mechanic should be able to do it without a problem (assuming you know an honest place with a good mechanic).

Unfortunately, I cannot help you with the price (I haven't done it yet), but if you want to get it done at the dealer's, bargain with the one that has quoted you a $1050 price to do the water pump for the price of the water pump only (it is ~$150 new for a GS and LS should use the same one) (since he is already doing 90+% of the disassembly required for the water pump when he is replacing the timing belt). Or, you can price the job at any place (Sears or such) and go from there. In general, the shop that I use is about half as expensive as the dealer service (not counting the parts).
