Default Stripped bolt with pic, suggestions

***this is not my motor just a pic i used***

The bolt that is circled in red is my obvious problem, when I go to put a wrench on it, to apply pressure and remove the tension the bolt turns, Im afraid to go much more with it as Im afraid I will strip or break it(if its not already stripped)

Anyone have a solution? I can get the belt off, so should I just continue on and remove the whole tensioner from the block and order another one?

Reason is I am upgrading cams, and doing some maintenance and need to remove it for that to take place

Any help is greatly appreciated

Try it with an impact gun.

Well if that's the tensioner its only used to make the acc belt tight. If the belt isn't brand new just cut it off (and get a brand new one) and then order a new tensioner while your at it! if its not the tensioner, then try and remove as much of the bolt as possible slowly not applying too much force. If it breaks then get a bolt extractor and have at it.

i forget the name brand, but there is a special socket set that you can buy at any auto parts store (i bought mine for 19.99) and i used those sockets to remove stripped nuts. works like charm.

looks like this...

i'll come back here and post the name if i remember it later

once the bolt starts spinning there is not much you can do about it. its really not a big deal at all.
dont mess with taking it off or hit it with an impact gun, it will only loosen it more.
if you plan on keeping that tensioner do not touch that bolt and use the old fashioned pry-bar method to relieve the tenisioner from the side of the pulley.
youre not really supossed to remove that bolt anyways. its just there so you can relieve tension off of the tensioner with a socket and a breaker bar which is a great improvement over the old fashioned method.
obviously someone before you didn't know which way to turn it.

if you mess with the bolt too much it could become looser and looser and I imagine the bearing could wobble when it is spinning and start making noises but i am just guessing on that one. mine was fine with a stripped bolt for a long time, but then i just swapped out the whole tensioner for a used one when i got the chance.
There was no apparent danger other than in my mind I kept picturing the loose bolt backing out and the wheel falling off and belt going everywhere... but that never happened to me
chances are if your tensioner is that beat up it is prob time for a new one anyways.

pretty much what I was thinking, yeah i went to put a 14mm wrench on it to pry it down to relieve the tension and it just rolled right around, i kinda knew right away it didnt feel right.

They should put a square notch in those things like a GM or honda K series tensioner
