Default Heat Shields

I've started to construct my own heat shield and I'm gonna have them reproduced. I've bought one from the last guy that sold them and it didn't fit my car well, as with some others that I know of.

So I was wondering how many would be interested in getting one. Price would be like $50 compared to the $75 I was charged for mine.

If you guys have any questions, shoot me an email at Tony@iRotors.com

Thanks,
Tony

Thumbs up wow- what timing!

It may have been my comments that you noticed about the heat shield not fitting my SC400 well.

Your timing is perfect- Peter's last shield is up for auction, and it ends today (4/11/02):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1819351698

Incidentally, eBay is how I got rid of mine. The new owner had to trim the vertical area that contacts the radiator to make it fit. That's exactly what I noticed, too, and why I sold it.

Getting a good, tight fit is hard, since there are different MAF adapters out there, so the rear "slot" of the shield has to allow enough clearance. There's no good solution for that except to use putty, weatherstripping, etc. to seal up that rear opening once installed.

UNLESS, the rear panel is made into a separate piece that is installed first. Instead of a slot, a hole is made, that fits over the MAF adapter (with the cone filter removed, of course). Then the filter is replaced and the side panel connected to the rear panel. I'm just brainstorming here- that setup may not be feasible.

But I'm digressing- the answer is yes, I'd like to try again, so put me down for one and let me know what I can do to help.

here's a picture of what they've done so far...work in progress...

Would you guys want powdercoating as well? Or leave it with that aluminum finish?

How many would be interested in this heat shield for their SC?
If you guys don't have the MAF adaptor & cone, I can get those for you too!

What kind of filter did you put on your MAF adapter. I am in the market for a filter, and would just like to know what you have.

Default Powdercoating is nice, but it shows scratches quickly....

...so I'd just as soon see mine plain, plus that will keep the costs down.

Yeah, I knew the back plane would be hard. Like I said, I'm not sure there is any good solution except to use some foam/ weatherstripping material to seal up that rear opening once installed. Which is no big deal to me- I expect to have to do that. I'm more concerned about a well-fitting panel along the radiator side.

This post does belong in the engine section of the SC forum, but the unfortunate fact is this section does not get much traffic, so you might want to PM a moderator and ask him to move it to the main SC forum, or start a new one there.

That way you'll get a bigger response, especially if you title the thread something like: "Group Buy Coming- MAF Heat Shields for about $50- who's interested?"

My "MycroByte Heashield" fit perfectly. All I need now is a backing piece. BTW, how are you guys screwing the top piece down on the front (curved) edge. I don't see any good pivot points to fasten it down to.

To fasten these down, I'll probably have them drill 2 more holes along the side (near the radiator reseviour)...
And 1 screw is on the left side...

Is this for SC400's only or is it going to be generic for also a SC300
