Default Can driving with the CEL on and MAF codes hurt the engine?

Ok, so I got the codes, cleaned the MAF VERY well.
Cleared the codes and was fine for a day or so.
Now anytime the car gets warmed up, or I really get on it, it throws the MAF code again, but then the CEL turns off later and is never on when the engine is cool.

So anyone know what this could be? FWIW this didn't happen until I put in my BFI mod but I know extra dirt and stuff is not getting in so I have no clue.

Also, what are the negative effects of just ignoring the CEL and continuing to drive if the ECU thinks the MAF is messed up or dead? Am I going to hurt anything?
