Default Opinions, cat or resonators

Hey just wanted a few opinions, i've got a greddy MX catback exhaust
it's really nice but you can barely hear it. you guys think i should remove my center cat and do 2.5" piping there, or have my resonators removed?

i'm afraid if i remove my center cat it will sound tinny or too raspy, but at the same time i kind of hate cutting the resonators off such a nice catback

any suggestions on giving it a little bit more tone without it sounding like a v6 mustang with flowmasters lol..

What I did was remove the center cat, and place a channel pipe instead. It sounds really aggressive on stock mufflers, so I'm sure it'll sound great on your Greddy MX. It sounds nothing like a standard 'X' pipe. The best way to describe it is "explosive"

I really suggest you go the same route. You won't get any raspy sound.

Oh oops! Forgot to see that you had a 300.

You can get a bigger piping size. That will make it louder, but it'll shift your power and torque to a higher rpm. So you'll lose low end and gain high end.

Idk about removing just the Center cat, it might sound weird on an I-6. But then again, you do have your primaries?

Your other option would be to cut out the resonators, I think that'll give you the sound you're looking for but, like you said, it'll be a shame to do that to a nice catback.

yeah good points, well the 2jz has a cat right after the exhaust manifold, and one cat on the mid pipe right before my catback starts.

i was thinking about just removing the whole mid pipe with that center cat and replacing it with 2.5" piping to match my catback, so it would be 2.5" from header back..

I guess i was just curious about removing a cat and having it sound raspy. will leaving the 1 cat keep it from sounding like i have no cats? lol

In that case, yea change it up so its 2.5" header back to match the cat back.

I would think if you still have that one cat it wouldn't sound like if you had no cats.

Hope I could help.

Remove the cats they are preventing flow, you have resonators that will prevent a tinny sound. In fact almost everyone I know that's boosted in a 1 or 2 jz is running no cats no resonators and their cars sound nice
