if you've already got a 2jz bottom, why go with a 1jz head instead of the 2jz, it may be a little pricier, but a 2jz beats a 1.5 jz, i believe the only times a 1.5 jz is effective are the times when somebodys got 2 pieces lying around 1 from each motor.

The debate on the flow characteristics of the 1JZ head vs. the 2JZ head exists. I have read quite a few times that the 1JZ flows a bit better.

Plus, if your electronics are already in place for the 1JZ, it's much easier to use a 2JZ short block than trying to convert over to a 2JZ-GTE engine management package.

like shern basically said, 1jz came in Soarer's the 2jzgte didn't

doing a 1jz swap is pretty straight forward while the 2jzgte isn't, so if you do a 1.5jz you get the ease of a 1jz swap but get to keep your displacement..

I've read quite the opposite, that the 1JZ head doesn't flow as much as a 2JZ head. I think someone on Supraforums proved this on a flow bench. However the argument of port velocities comes in saying that the 1JZ has higher port velocities which could lead to quicker spoolup. This is all jiberish to me though.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Where did any of you read that the 1jz head "flows" better?

So, where's my chicken dinner???

I think that the misconception rose from JDM swappers doing a 1JZ head swap on their cars. I've lost count to how many JDM Chasers have done this swap. It might have to do with the JDM head design or just overall cost and availability of the conversion overseas, who knows. Then again, there are a few 1JZ VVTi head swaps out there and who know how much those flow. Probably not by much though.

In any case, i didn't mean to rain down on the build party. Keep it up and prove me wrong!
