with something like this, it is almost always something left unplugged, loose connection, etc... go back over everything you did and re-do it... it's normal if you installed a air filter that removed the air box for it to make some kinda weird noises...
when the car was first started after the air filter was installed did these symptoms come about? if it was immediately, I wouldn't think it would be the oil from the filter on the maf that quickly, however it could potentially happen... how wet is the air filter with oil? if it's not dripping, then that is probably all but ruled out...
go back and check all your wiring connections, look at other things that coulda been bumped as well - coil pack connections, etc...

did you pinch the plug to MAF on accident while removing the intake or removing the plug itself? inspect every connection. the two small vacum lines wouldnt make your idle jump past 500rpms of range. but if your MAF isnt working, it would.
try resetting the ecu as well. could just not be used to the non restricted air.
unplug the battery for about 5-10 minutes

thats why buddy
you installed you MAF backways lol
flip it so the plug is facing teh engine and not the fender wall
cheers
underneath the MAF sensor you will see an arrow, that arrow represents the flow of air, so make the arrow point the passanger/driver seats.
