Speed Sensor Wiring Question...Gurus step in please!!!
Hey guys,
I'm havig some issue with my speed sensor.
Let me give you the rundown:
I rewired all the wires for my gauge cluster, and realised my speed sensor wasn't working.
Since a rat decided to make lunch of the car's wires (previous owner), I had to wire the speed sensor directly to the cluster, it's 3 wires..a ground (connected to the cluster) , a 12v, and the signal from the speed sensor itself. I jumped the 12v from the dome light fuse, and all was working. Speed sensor was working fine.
This morning, I start the car, and drive, and nothing. I check the wires, and nothing's loose, and I even checked continuity back to the cluster. i checked that there was voltage, there was.
but then it dawned on me, it wasn't a switched 12v, like the manual said the original wire was.
Could I have done damage to the sensor by giving it a constant 12v, instead of a switched 12v?
I changed it out for a switched 12v (cig lighter), and still no speed sensor.
i'm gonna check the resistance of the sensor as per the Factory Service Manual, but I want to know anything else I could check, mainly if I can fry my speed sensor by giving it a constant 12v overnight.

theoretically yes but most likely no... most of the strain would be on the constant draw on the battery as switched power only means its on when the ignition is on or what ever controlling it is on ... since you spliced it on constant power i'd say check your connection then check the fuses / relay that the splice is sitting on

I'll take a look at the wires again, but I'm 90% sure the wiring is dead on.
