SC400 worth modding?
I picked up an SC400 before I really knew anything about the available mods, which seems to be very short in the first place. Now that I am paying more attention to performance parts etc. it just seems like a terrible investment to try to increase power out of the 400 and it seems like the money would be significantly better spent on an SC300. From my research, I am seeing 300rwhp from supercharged sc400's that require all sorts of additional installation mods. Am I correct in this assessment or is there an angle that I am not yet aware of?

1995 sc400, but overall it just doesn't seem like there are that many options. Obviously choices like the m90 or m112 superchargers, but it just seems like the amount invested into the custom fabrication for parts would be better utilized in a 2jz-gte drop.

i would say depending on how much you spent on the car. i got my 93 sc4 dirt cheap...literally and all it needed was a fuel pump. I'm going with a 2jz auto swap. From my research, going 2jz auto you can keep the refinement and still have your pep under the hood. keep the stock twin, hook up the ac and your cruise control and youre set.

Or you could go the road less traveled SC400TT. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with a 2JZ by any means, I just like something different. Do a search there are quite a few sweetassed 400's on here putting down some nice numbers. Plus the sound of a V8 with a TT setup is awesome.

if you got your sc400 for cheap then swap it/ boost it. but it depends on you and how much money you want to put in it. but if you spent some money to get your sc400 then either sell it, or grow love with the sc400 and show how its just as god as a 5spd sc300.

get a 2jz auto swap....see how you like the auto because it bolts on to the stock sc4 driveshaft...if you dont like it, go r154. trust me the swap isnt that bad. this is my plan of attack but not dropping in my motor for another 2 months.

I have my bolt on set up to TT your SC400 for sale in the classifieds right now. Check it out. It is priced at a steal...Way less than I paid to fabricate. Good for 750 RWHP, easy...With the right internals. If not, 450 RWHP is good on the stock internals and the stock transmission. You ask why am I selling it? I am going bigger to hit the 1000 RWHP mark. So, built motor, ported heads, forged internals, ARP studs, balanced and blueprinted, biger turbos...For what I am selling my stuff for, it will probably cost as much or more to do a 2j swap, and be a lot more headache...

I'm just trying to say that it is a lot more cost effective to turbo the inline6. You know, for us that are on a budget. lol (college student w/part-time job) (need to switch to full-time this summer) haha
Props to you if you have enough cash to TT the 400 with a Getrag 6spd behind it. That would be my ideal set-up, but for now I would just go NA-T with an SC300 5spd.

I think for cost effectiveness if you don't want crazy horsepower but enough to be fun you can't be a simple low budget 1jz swapped SC.
i personally would love to get a SC400 but don't wanna invest the money needed for it to be where i would want it..
if $$$ isn't a problem i definetly think a SC400 is sweeeet...
if you just want something mild on a budget, 1jz SC all the way
