Default vsv for evap?

Does anyone know what the vsv that runs from the carbon canister to manifold on a sc400 does?

I think you are referring to the gas vapor recirculation. It recirculates unused gas vaopr back through the manifold. If this is what you are referirng to, you do not want to mess with it.

I just had to redo this whole system in my car (which came without it). Until I did, gas was leaking right on the street from the engine area and I didn't even know it. One big headache.

Your car must be 99 or 2000...those are the only years for it.

No its a 93, There is a vacuum hose from the carbon canister it runs into a vsv then to the intake. I ran for a long time with the vacuum hose unplugged after my supercharger. It originally bolts around the valve cover area, its on the same harness as the mass air plug. All it could possibly do is suck air through the carbon canister coming from the tank. I just don't know at what point it opens, what action the ecu takes to determine when it is suppose to open... I don't know why you would need to create a vacuum leading back to the tank. It does that alright on its own with the return style fuel system. It must be purely for emissions to scavage vapor that would otherwise goto atmosphere...

It's also known as the Canister Purge Solenoid. It purges the vapor into the intake from the canister. It's pruely an emissions thing. but without it you will waste gas.

The VSV makes it purge only under certain circumstances. It's spelled out somewhere online -- engine temp & throttle position make the most difference.

I've been fighting my evap system for a while now. The line leaving the tank is clogged with rust as is the line between there and the front of the car.

yeah it is purely for emissions, and it keeps the vapor from escaping, which saves gas obviously.
it regulates when the vapor is pulled in, it happens under heavy acceleration or even some cruise conditions cant really remember, basically you dont want it sucking out vapors all the time, cause that would vacuum the tank.
