Looking to gain more HP....
TO all SC400 owners. I recently bought a 95 sc 400 automatic and looking for some additional HP. I have seen things like an electric supercharger, chips, and other traditional things like exhaust. Does anyone know if an electric supercharges that connects to stock intake will increase my HP. Also i have seen Ads for chipping your car. Do these chips that connect to IAT sensor really work? were is the IAT sensor? Ive read the forums and found a lot of people who are swapping enginges but i dont want to go that big. Also im hearing a screeching or grinding noise when im between 1000-2000 RPM, i was told it could be the mechanism that has to due with the tension on the timming belt. It seems as thouh it only happens when i barely press on the gas, between the first two bars on the RPM gauge closest to 1000 and 2000 RPM. HELP...

WOW.... yea electric superchargers are worthless they are CPU fans connected to a battery that produces a 10 second gust of wind. You'll get more power from a BFI.
The IAT sensor "chip" just tricks your car to run richer if anything at all.
A screeching or grinding noise would generally not point to a belt. A squeal or squeak I would say belt. A grinding noise = trouble.
Bottom line, there is no very cheap way to get HP. At this rate, if you want to go faster, buy a set of nice sticky tires! It will make a bigger difference than all that crap above combined!

(1) fix the belt screeching issue before you think about modifying the car for power.
(2) I have seen a couple projects with electric superchargers that yielded favorable results. Both of which involved wiring the supercharger to a series of about a dozen batteries to generate the necessary current to spin the charger over 60k rpm to actually make significant power. I would MUCH rather use a conventional belt-driven supercharger that could spin to 60k rpms on its lonesome via a series of pulley and gears.
-----------
What kind of money are you looking to spend to make more power? Having a number would make it easier to give the appropriate advice.

You can do a SAFCII with a Ford Escort if you want
I did the SAFCII with my SC400 with the mods I mentioned above and I believe I got about 19rwhp out of it. The SC400 runs pretty rich so after leaning it out I got more power and was using less gas - think of it as an investment
