Strange Loss of Power When Gears Change
I tried searching but didn't find any similar problems to this one. I have an sc400 with 120k. From a stop, I begin accelerating and just when it should be shifting into 2nd gear, it does shift, but I immediateley experience a loss of power. I am not sure if it is shifting into the wrong gear or what, but it gets stuck in this "mystery gear" and makes my car quite sluggish. It is still driveable, but i dont want this to lead to bigger problems.
It doesnt always do this, it will sometimes shift normally with no power loss. I was guessing it was maybe accidentally shifting into 3rd gear form first, but the weird thing is that it gets stuck in this "mystery gear" and no matter how much i floor it it will not shift gears up or down. Once I come to a stop though it goes back to first. Please help me Lexus experts!

My fluid seems to be the right color on the dipstick, but there strangely seems to be more than the recommended amount of fluid when I check the level on the stick. I wonder if that is a problem?
There are no check engine lights or anything either. Would a mis-shift of the tranny cause an extended loss of power like that?

Oh I forgot to mention that it does not happen when my engine just started and is not yet up to operating temperature. Why would this only happen on a warm engine?

Did you check the trans. fluid with the car idling in Park? My car would do that sometimes too but not often. Don't know why. But my trans. is remanufactured so it might not be the trans because yours does it too.

Trans should be checked in neutral. Too much fluid IS a problem. I used to have that experience, I accelerate then it gets stuck on a certain gear and the car is slow and power is not kicking in... kind of like a turbo lag.
