Default Engine Ticking......?????Common ? unno.....

since i bought my car the engine had a tic.tic.tic.tic.tic.tic.tic.tic.tic.. noise coming from it.. some times it will be louder the other times. I thought it could be a lifter sticking... so i bought the lifter agent they sell in pep boys to see if it will help. It didnt. still geting the noise. what can this be? is this common? its not having any effect on my proformance but is very annoying..

Might possibly be a tired injector?

I have also heard injectors tick. It sounds very similar to a ticking lifter.

Although I do not put a whole lot of faith into the "snake oils" said to quiet down noisy lifters.

Here's what I think of when you say Tick Tick Tick sounds.
~Lifters...get some Lucas Oil treatment...see if that helps.
~Fan is hitting something, shroud etc...
~Spark plug backed itself out a bit...(though you would have some performance loss.)
~Crack in exhaust manifold...(but that would be silent on start up, and get louder as metal expands.)

Its either some moving part or leaking....if its a spark plug or exhaust....the ticking would increase with RPM's...so Its probably not that.

wait...you stuffed a 455 into a vette!!!

Cmon. this should be cake for you man!!!

Valves and lifters are sticking....Here is an old mechanics secret to help with that fix....Run "one quart" of transmission fluid in with your oil for about 500 miles and then change your oil and see what happens...The loud clicking noise should be considerable less or entirely gone altogether..

The tranmission fluid actually acts as a detergent in with your oil to free up those sticky lifters..

Just use good oil, premium gas, and then wait a year, that's what I did.
Turn up the tunes in the meantime.
