Mandrel Piping?
I went to a local muffler shop that i know does pretty decent work. I asked him if he could use mandrel bent pipes instead of crush bent. I told him i could even supply him the piping, but he said that wouldnt be necessary, because he already has them in stock. Heres where i was a bit skeptical. He says the piping he has came off of Bigger trucks such as the F250 or Ram 2500. I wasnt aware that these trucks came with mandrel bent piping. Can anyone here verify if thats true or not? Much appreciated.

Yes it is mandrel piping...Most stock vehicles are sold new with mandrel piping as far as I know...Exhaust is manfactured new to certain consistent spec's, I don't think their in the manufacturing plant bending exhaust pipes to fit on new cars...At least 90 models and up.....
The F250 is like 2.50 piping if I am not mistaken, that may be to large for your lexus...2.25 mandrell is the perfect size for exhaust flow on the 400's and I believe 300's too...... Unless you are full blown Turbo'd or something then and only then would bigger pipes benefit on the stock exhaust X design......

I went from 2.50 bent piping to 2.25 mandrel and noticed no difference on the rear section..Don't think it makes a huge difference....Just something to think about...

just a little heads up... most cars dont come with mandrel piping. Its cheaper to produce anvil bent pipes unless it is going on some high performance car. The larger diesel trucks on the other hand usually come with mandrel bent pipe but they are mild steel instead of stainless. Your best bet is to find what the heads flow on the motor and match flow rates to piping sizes and choose from there to get the maximum effect. I worked at lexus for a while and i've never seen a true mandrel system come stock nor anything under $70k for that matter. This is why you are able to gain power mandrel bends; consistant flow rates through bends with less velocity changes unlike the crush or anvil bent.
