Default How come 2JZ VVti...

is much much quicker in my buddies GS, than my non VVti sc300?.. This make me want to fine a VVti motor and put it in my car.. The GS is also heavier and gets better gas milage than my car.. which makes no sense to me.. So, heavier, better gas milage YET faster than mine.. Mine is a 1992 sc300 5spd.. he would smoke me..

How many miles are on your SC? Maybe your engine is just tired, have you checked compression and done a tune-up lately?

The vvti will get better gas mileage and it does have some extra low end torque, but overall he shouldnt be "smoking" you....maybe its the 92 vs 98+ thing kicking in like kaosman said.

Where do you get a compression test done?.. My car is beautiful BUT has 289k on it.. Here is a link of pics incase you wanted to see it haha.. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=210907

How much would compression leaks draw from HP?

I've driven plenty of older SC3's and I own an '01 VVTI 2JZGE. The difference is noticeable immediately.

A lot of it is the software helping the engine perform, but think of how big a difference it makes when you kick your timing just 2 degree's out on your non VVTI 2JZ. The VVTI is constantly changing the timing to the engines overall needs and therefore that extra power you get when you tweak your timing is ALWAYS happening to the VVTI motor.

Technology wins.

You can buy a compression gauge from an auto parts store for around $30. Testing compression requires the same skill as changing spark plugs. Just unplug the electrical connector from the distributor (to disable spark and fuel), remove the spark plug in cylinder 1, screw in the compression tester to cylinder 1, and have someone floor the throttle and turn the car over for about 6 seconds. Write down the compression value, and move on to the next cylinder.

With the amount of miles you've got, you probably have less than ideal compression. That would definately explain the power difference, plus considering what OLT said, the non VVTi engine is already at a disadvantage.
