The best Cold Air Intake system
Ok guys, i used to have a smaller filter, it was about 6 inches wide at the base and like 7 inches long, also K&N. I used to have it routed to the passenger side in the bumper under the headlight, but i didnt want to have to worry about rain puddles so i did this... Ive been running on this system for a while now, but it was on that normal size K&N filter. It worked great, i dont have to worry about rain puddles (but a rain guard is in order). Im just now posting because i just got my big new intake filter, and guys, its HUGE! Its 6" round at the base, and 12" long. I wanted to find the longest filter i could get to make use of all the space, and right now it sits somewhat on my horn to releave stress from the intake being mounted perpendicular to the ground. Anyway i dont think i've seen anyone make this type of system, and i think anyone who wants to make a new system, DO THIS, its very very easy and pretty effective, all the cold air comes through that grill in the front and the chamber is pretty well sealed off, so at higher speeds the better
This picture does no justice, untill i tell you i wear a size 13 shoe!

Well i always hear how the pod filters actually hurt the performance of the lexus V8 because it simply does not have enough surface area, i dont think thats the case this time! lol Plus the regular filter my friends use on their 2 liter motors, i figure a 4 liter deserves better.
and overkill is my middle name! lol
EDIT: grammar, wow i must be tired...

NICE JOB!
couple questions though.
first, whered you get that nice filter from and how much?
second, whered you get your MAF from and how much?
third, where is that piping from?
fourth, howd you bend/route the piping?
fifth, how much can you make another one for?
thanks

Thanks for the compliments guys!
yeah there are two pieces under the headlight, its something like two 45 degree bends and they are connected but like twisted where they connect if that makes sense. Like they dont make a perfect 90 degree bend that would lay down flat on the ground.
Yeah love the growl
1.) visit www.optionsauto.com , great website with good prices. Go to engine -> air intakes -> universal -> K&N, then choose, lots of options.
2.) The MAF came on my car, my car is a 97, it just doesnt have the engine cover on it as i was taking out the EGR system and doing to the throttle body bypass.
3.) Ebay, its very good quality intercooler piping, its polished aluminum and its stayed soo shiny and doesnt get real nasty looking like those chrome intakes do over time
4.) i bought all my piping prebent, and its routed from under the headlight straight over to where you see it. For more info look at the top of this post.
5.) I'll help you out as much as i can, but i dont want to be making these, sorry, good luck though!
If anyone is wondering how to get the filter in there, you have to come from under the car, i have pics if someone needs them.

Did you notice any gains from installing it where you did?
That vent has been the topic of many debates and whether air actually flows through it into the car. Some say it does(which would support putting the filter there) but others say that because of the location above the nose and the air being deflected upward, a low pressure zone is created actually pulling air out.
If youre feeling gains then to power you and it works. It looks awesome.

JSpecSC3 made something very similar to this, but his filter drops right below his headlight.
