2JZ-GE/1JZGTE Decision HELP NEEDED.
I currently drive a 96 5 SP Sc300. I am a fiend for boost, but very unsure on which route to go about. Im currently running on the stock Sc300 2jz-ge block with about 108,000 miles. Before reading a couple million threads I wanted to do the 2jz-gte swap . But I find out its way to expensive for me considering I'm a broke as a joke college student. So I was either planning to do a 1jz-gte swap or boost my existing 2jz-ge block. (make a custom 2jz-gte ). I was curious which would be more "economical". I figure that the 2jz-ge block is more capable of handling more boost. But I figure if I push high psi's I'd prbably have to rebuild my original motor. Comments/Suggestions/Opinions/Respones please ?

Sorry for the ****ty post. I found the thread I was looking for. Thanks TRD. So I'm going with the 1jz swap. I was wondering how difficult it would be to do? I was planning to have my brother help me with it because he is pretty knowlegedable, but he has not done a engine swap before. Is there a manual out there that I could purchase to assist me? Or something along the lines of that?

Quote from 2.5tsoarer- "Well, I must admit . This is the easiest swap I have ever done. In 1997 I was the first to do sr20det swap on the East coast and found out the hard way what to do and NOT to do. Well with this swap no body mods are required to install engine and stock intercooler piping. All the holes are there and bolt holes tapped. I started removing stocker at 5pm and finished completely installing 1jz 5 hrs later. I didnt even have to remove hood !!!"
Took him 5 hours to remove the 2jz-ge and drop in the 1jz... Wiring is simple. You'll need to extend the harness if you want it to rest in the intended ECU location of just let it sit a little higher

I didnt do my swap. I was in between cars when I found mine so I just hopped on it. However, I do plan on doing the swap sooner or later with one of my friend on their car.
In my car, stock except for the 15psi i've stayed right next to a BPU Supra. We ran twice from about a 20mph roll and it was neck and neck up to about 100mph. Fun times I cant wait till this weekend when I move back home and get to drive my car again

Is there anyway to get the 1jz passed smog legally without knowing someone in the smog business? Loop holes or what not? Because the car would be useless if I can't drive it. Anyone in California with a swapped engine with some knowledge?

Good luck passing smog with the 1JZ. I had to have "someone" smog my car.
