Default Car Wouldnt Start

after four months of feeling like i had the most dependable in the world with 193k on it i was shocked when it would not start.
it was parked sunday night and not used untill i tried to start it last night,a total of 48hrs.
last night when i tried to start it the car would crank but not turn over.
this went on for about 5mins i was afraid the battery would drain so i gave up.
then i tried one last time and it started,it ran a little rough for a second and then was okay.
any idea what it could have been?
its been fine today, should i be afraid of getting stuck?
thanks

well you do live in new york and its pretty cold right now so that could be a big factor.. Its usually harder to start the car up when the battery is that cold

How old is your battery? What type of sound did your car make when you were trying to start it?

I would check the battery before all else.

What exactly is crank but did not turn over? Constant cranking and nothing catching at all, or it catches for s second but dies? I know the fuel pump ECU failure is a common problem which usually causes the engine to catch a second and immediately die. The problem with the fuel pump ECU going bad is it is intermitent. It will catch all day for a week then suddenly not catch for a few minutes, then work, then not catch for a few hours. When mine went bad it finially left me stranded at a far away golf course. After an hour I had to call a tow. Wouldn't you know it when the tow truck was arriving I tried again and it started Obviously I drove the car home but since the tow truck came out I had to pay for a trouble call
