Default Check Engine Light

Does anybody know if the TE1 to E1 pinout trick works on OBDII cars? I have a check engine light on, tried this method and nothing happened except my cruise light and ABS light flashed maybe 10 times. If I reset my ECU then the light will go away but come back in about 3-4 days. I have a completely stock '96 SC300 5-speed with about 150K on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

that method only works on OBDI cars. for OBdII cars you'll need a computer that hooks up to the OBDII outlet. those computers run around $10000 from snap-on and only shop has those types of computer

oh well i'll just get one of those machines then.....thanks. . Is there anything else that I can do? The car drives fine...maybe a little less responsive, and lowered gas mileage but still smooth.

In my area most of the parts stores offer to pull codes for free. They just come out with a handheld diagnostic computer and hook up. This usually takes 5-10 minutes when I 've done it. Now, I've never done it with the Lex so I'm not sure if they can read all cars, But they don't specify makes or models in their ads. Might be worth a shot

They can't do it with a lexus cause the shape of the diagnostic port is wierd. Not at any of the ones i've tried anyways.

I hope you weren't trying the Diag Port underneath the hood, cuz that's not the OBDII port.
When you get your hands on a OBD2 reader, hook it up to the port inside your car...it's right around where your hood release latch is.

Good luck.
