Default Turboing a '92? Whats the deal?

I did a search, and came up with 'some' sort of answer, but mainly it was in relation to the FMAX kit.. I drive a '92 5 speed SC. I am looking into the complete DaveH Turbo kit. From what it seems, you need an airtflow meter from a '93+ LS400 and an ECU upgrade from a '93+ SC/Supra - Or a standalone ECU - if you want to turbocharge a '92. Is this the case? Can I turbocharge my car with the daveH kit no problem, with just the S-AFC.. or what do I need to look at upgrading. If Anyone out there with a NA-T '92 SC could give me some specific answers, or even someone that knows for sure, that would be most appreciated, thanks very much and sorry if im bringing up something that has been discussed thoroughly.

u gotta search all the answers are here and on supraforums.com

you do not need an ecu, you can simply use the v8 maf sensor.

You don't need to use a different ecu. The only reason you will even need the ls400 maf is if you use bigger injectors.

I'm not completely sure, but I don't believe you need it for 440cc. Anything bigger will need it though. Try searching on supraforums, they should have the answer there. I haven't upgraded the injectors on mine yet, I'm waiting for this winter to do that.

I was wondering the same thing, but i went overboard, and bought the AEM EMS and eliminated the MAF, but i do have a 92 and 93 SC300 ECU's (both 5 speed) along with matching MAF's, If you are interested send me a PM.

I've got a turbo, manifold, pipes, intercooler, wastegate, and the exhaust all the way back to the rear axle I'm trying to sell. Includes all the oil lines and whatnot allong with a really nice stainless steel turbo manifold.

$2500 takes it all.

That's not overboard. That is doing it right. Having a complete tune with the AEM is the way to go. The mechanical tune with some electronics does not have the drive like stock feel and there is always the hazard of the engine bogging down and cutting out on quick acceleration followed by deceleration (on some combos). What is the price of peace of mind and safety for you and others on the road?
