Cheaper to modify stock exhaust or get a Borla?
I got an SC4, i want to have exhaust work done. I wanted to get either Magnaflows or flowmaster mufflers, but from what i hear flowmaster mufflers would sound bad. Would it be cheaper to get an aftermarket exhaust such as the ever so expensive Borla, or changing the piping on my car, removing cats and possibly some resonators and mufflers? OR maybe if someone is selling their aftermarket exhaust for 93 SC400, then i am interested. Email M25Ellis@comcast.net or PM, here on forums everyday.

You won't gain a lot of power by just changing the muffler. The piping itself is restrictive, and the restriction makes you have less power, but if you totally remove the exhaust (open headers) then you lose a little low end torque.
This seems like a good thread for you to read

I went w/ the same set-up that livesc400 has....
Just remove all your resonators.... I went 2.25'' dual pipes all the way from the cats to the stock mufflers. Had them custom fab an X-pipe a little forward of half-way back.
It sounds AWESOME. I've had so many people tell me that my car sounds bad-a.
w/ that and a BFI + K&N intake, I can feel an improvement by the butt-dyno.
They charged me $200 for the exhaust set-up.

that's how i have my exhaust set up but I would change the following from that thread
instead of all 2.5" I would go all 2.25"
instead of hooker mufflers I would go with magnaflows
I would also get a better X-pipe like the one described here -

I have changed the setup yet again.
it's still 2.5" throughout. Then I bought 2 36" glasspacks in the middle right after the x-pipe. Then I removed the mufflers altogether. I'm looking to change this to the one that's described above.
good luck.
my intake box is ghetto chopped up for better flow. With that and the exhaust and walbro 255lph fuel pump(which I didn't need) the car made 202rwhp stock SC4 dynoes around 180rwhp so some sold 20rwhp gain from this.
