Default Who has ACTUALLY DONE the 5 speed to auto?

Conversion? Taking advantage of my lexus being repaired I think right now is the perfect time for a 5 speed conversion.

I spent last few days searching on this subject alone, in process to come up with an EXACT list of all the parts I will need but I seem to have more questions then answers.

Lists varies from

Stock 5-speed tranny
Stock shifter bar, I think I have the stock shift **** too
Stock flywheel, pressure plate, clutch. NEEDS REPLACEMENT. You can get a stock clutch kit for cheap.
Clutch pedal assembly. It's bolt in, not welded. So you don't have to weld on your car!
Clutch master cylinder
Clutch slave cylinder
Piping/hose from master to slave cylinder
2-piece stock driveshaft
93 SC300 Manual Transmission ECU...yes the computers are different.
To

pedal assembly
tranny mount
master cylinder
slave cylinder (if not provided with your front clip)
manual, center counsel piece with shifter boot.
driveshaft will have to be custom fitted to adapt to your stock lexus auto diff.
shifter assembly
clutch
flywheel
clutch fork
pilot and throwout bearing
new pressure plate, and flywheel bolts
some really expensive Toyota manual trans gear oil
Also..

Transmission
Axels
ECU
Driveshaft
All of the interior parts (pedals, trim, etc)
Tranny cross member brace.
Tranny mount
Slave cylinder
Gas peddle stopper to replace kickdown switch
5-speed brake pedel rubber thingy (autos have a wider brake pedal)
5-speed pumpkin

shifter assembly
shifter boot
shifter boot plate
clutch pedal assembly
clutch line
clutch master cylinder
manual transmission ECU
manual transmission brake pedal (not just the rubber thingy)
Every list I have found seems to have its inconsistancies. And other then sharing a few parts seems different. I have found a 5 speed transmission in a local place that I plan to grab tommorrow or fairly soon. Along with my rear bumper assembly.

Also I have a question as to why I need a new ecu? What happens if I leave the automatic ECU? I drive a 240sx that was previously converted from auto to manual, the stock ecu was left in place. The only side effect is that the OD off light flashes on and off. And my 115 mph speed limiter is gone. Why do I have to replace the ecu?

Anyone actually done this swap or helped someone convert an auto to a 5 speed?

From what I have read, the total cost (parts AND labor) for this swap is up around $3500 total. I dont remember how much of that was labor, but I dont think its the easiest auto -->manual conversion to do

i think there are very few who have done the auto to 5speed.... but a greater number has done the auto to 6-speed... which involves different and more parts... also requires for the tunnel to be enlarged and such... I think that's the reason why you are getting so few responses.

I converted my supra from auto to 5-speed, so this may help a little. I had to modify the body in 2 places... you have to drill a hole in the firewall for the clutch master cylinder, and you have to modify the tunnel for the shifter to come up through. I had to wire in the backup light. Everything else was bolt-on.

Flywheel, flywheel bolts and clutch kit
tranny with shifter and console piece with shifter boot
clutch pedal assembly with master/slave cylinders and line
5-speed brake pedal
driveshaft
ecu (not absolutely necessary)

On the supra, you flip the rear tranny crossmember over for the 5-speed.

So far I picked up a 5 speed tranny for about 700 bucks with taxes included. Came with a 6 month warranty.

I was wondering what kinda of clutch options are available... I still need to get the driveshaft and rest of the parts however. Kinda feels like im treasure hunting...

how many mile on that tranny did yours have?
I picked up a 5 speed transmission for 500 shipped to my door with 30k on it.

a new w58 is $1,368.76 +shipping (95+)

Although the 92-94 transmissions are not the same as the 95+ they are w58's, but have a different shifting assembly. They won't fit in the 92-94 with out modification. At least not in the manual cars I don't know for sure about the automatic tunnel, but I suspect it's the same. It would need to be modified..

Well my tranny is from a 1993 but my car is a 95 auto. But that shouldnt matter since im auto anyways.. I figure modification of tunnel will be necessary.

What clutch do you use? or are available? Although i should probably get the rest of the parts first anyways.

I had the auto > 6speed conversion on for a brief moment but now am considering getting something better. The conversion is not a simply task by any means.
