do you guys have any idea on how to check a 'faulty' or somewhat faulty thermostat?

You'll have to remove it and place it in hot water, around 180 degrees to verify it is fully opening. Just replace it to be sure.

I was thinking the same damn thing bro, I want to avoid it busting on me by checking it beforehand, but to check it you have to remove it. And if that's the case and it's the original thermostat then you may as well replace it because it's a cheapie part in comparison to other parts I've had to buy.
