Pressure Hose
Greetings all. I'm pretty new to the forums and just picked up my SC300 last Sunday. I hear that the power steering pump goes out as well as the rear main seal. The question is that I found a leak on the power steering high pressure hose at the bottom of the motor (the one that's straight). I went to the dealer and said I had to buy the whole assembly with the lines and hose attached and that you can not just replace the hose. The part is $311 + tax. I've searched a number of times, but I can not find any topics on this issue. My psp seems to be fine and there are no leaks or signs of failure (yet)...just that hose. Is this true? If so, can it be done by oneself? Thanks

Well the database is not working properly as I write but there are plenty of topics on that subject. Until then can you share the exact words you searched for and in what forum?

You have to try more than once. Next time do "power steering" on the SC300/400 forums once the database is back up. Often it will take a few attempts to find it. This forum has almost 100000 posts. I bet most of your questions have been answered or at least asked several times over.
Just to add though the power steering pumps do go out and when they do they take out the alternator below it. The pump can be restored with by replacing a seal which is very cheap but you need to know how to do the labor.

If you search, you'll find a post I recall reading about a firm in AZ that will fabricate high-pressure PS hoses. According to their web page, you have to send them the old hose, so you'll be without your car for a while. But they'll remove the fittings on each end (still good) and just replace the leaking part for considerably less than what the stealership wants. You may have a similar sort of shop where you live.
