Default heat only hot when i press the gas

ok its freakkkkinnggggg cold in ny , and my heat seems to work only when i press the gas ac on or off, and it doesnt blow hot air it blows warm air, what gives

4 out of 5 times when this happens, the fix is as simple as topping off the coolant level.

This has been discussed several times on this forum- try it and see!

mine did the same thing..low on coolant.

Worse comes to worse, it could be the heater valve. Check if any coolant is leaking.

check coolant in the radiator when engine is cold? and off?

you know where the radiator cap is to the bottom left but still on the coolant reseoivar is this other round thing with wires going to it connected to a sensor im assuming ,it was severed , what the hell is it and can that be my problem, it still blowing hot air only when i press the gas my cooling fluid seems up to par

That is the coolant level sensor and that surrounding area is prone to leaks from fine cracks that develop. If you're losing small amounts of coolant from that area you would not be the first.

Even if the fluid level looks full, just try adding a little more and see if that helps. I recall one post saying that adding only 2 more oz. of fluid solved the problem.
