Default How do you check coolant on a '93

Last winter was my first experience with driving the LS. As the colder months progressed, I found the heater no longer warming the interior. Everything appeared to be functioning properly with no visible leaks and proper coolant levels. So I let it sit until warmer weather. I kept reading about coolant levels being a problem. I added a few ounces even though coolant was within the levels marked on the overflow tank To my surprise, I got heat. Now I'm kind of going through this problem again with mildly warm air coming out and a full overflow tank. In the old days I'd just pull the radiator cap, now I struggle to see the coolant level on the overflow tank. Anyone got a work around?

When was the last time the system was flushed?

Haven't been done since I've owned it for the last year and a half.

most of the time when the heater doesn't work well, it's due to air in the coolant system. properly bleed the system and see if it improves.
if you hold the revs and then heat increases, there is air in the system as the water pump circulates the coolant.

I would flush it and then correctly bleed the system.

Looks like I'll flush the system and hope for improvement. I do have a question regarding operation. When I turn on the climate control even with the temperature raised the ac comes on. Is this how it's suppose to work? I always switch it off but wonder if there is a problem with the CCU or the LS is meant to run the ac for heat. My wife has the habit of running the ac for heat in her car claiming that the car gets warmer.
