how can i get a 14.7?
hi guys i got a completely stock sc400 with catback exhaust.. thats it. I have new tires, with pretty good traction. But my friend with a maxima (intake exhaust) says he will "murder" me. Are there any fasts mods i can do to run 14.7s? Im thinking about taking out the spare tire subs and floor matts. Any other stuff i should know?

I had a tune up, ECU upgrade, drag radials, cat back exhaust, Injen intake and the 60lb spare out of the trunk and the best 1/4 I ever ran was 15.5. It was about 100 degrees out at the time so I'm sure that knocked me big time. You'd better start saving for a supercharger. There will be a couple available next year. You can throw a 75 shot of NOS on there for the time being. It might get you in that range.
It's tough to move a 3600lb car so you're gonna need to do more than the lighten it by 150lbs.

the maxima wont take you on top end if all he runs is a 14.7; provided your car is in good running order
run him 60-120 or something and see what happens
for the 1/4 you'll need some nitrous most likely... will be the cheapest and easiest way to get there... run a 100shot and make sure your distributor rotor and cap are clean; reset your ECU, etc...

thanks for all the advice guys.. i was thinking NOS as well. I really don't care that much about the track anymore. It's just when you have a white guy with a ghetto maxima who claims to get "50HP outa the exhaust system alone" and says hes "already killed me 4 times".. I have to step up to that. Do you think i could take a 98 maxima with intake exhaust and a "15 hp+ y pipe" in my stock sc400 + catback? Oh yeah he has 3 subs in pixy glass, so that should add about 50 pounds to his. We are both automatic.

WTF!!! My bone stock time was 15.3 first time to the track,... at 92mph,... hmmmmm... and I got super subs and amps and capacitors and rims and more weight here and there, and still did that 15.3. Wow,... I'd get something checked or go try that one again.

make sure you car is in running order and you'll obliterate an automatic maxima; Nissans lose TONS of power through the drivetrain... and the VQ30 motors arent going to gain much power through basic little mods; they already breathe pretty good stock, etc... a y-pipe isnt going to add 15hp...
ask him if he wants to run on a roll first because it'll be very nasty
oh and its not NOS... its nitrous... NOS is a brand

just a point.. the maxima exhaust is truly terrible.. and a y pipe really can give 15 hp. Here is a dyno that proves it. Difference between the two is a Y pipe and new rims (the ones in the after wiegh 7 pounds more... so that isnt helping)
