Default First Oil Change?

Our NX 200T is going in for it's 5000 mile service today. We're paying additional for an oil and filter change. In the old days, we did the 1st change at 3000 miles. Do you think this is being overly cautious?

There is already a topic on this, do a search for it to find out what people have already commented on. But as a quick summary some people still do it at 1,500 miles or less, some at 3k, some just follow the recommend schedule by the manufacturer of 10k miles.

This^

I did my first oil change at 1500, then I'll go again at 5k, then start a 5k cycle.

IMO, 10k is stretching it too far and it makes me uncomfortable.

We got ours changed today at 4800 miles. The dealership said they never heard of someone doing it so early. ???

Oil is a cheap insurance. $100 for an oil change is nothing compared to the price of a hurt motor.

My NX will be 5k cycles, my wife's IS is 5k cycles, and my Camaro is every 3k or less (once a year since I don't drive it much)

I plan on doing what the manufacturer recommends. It's a leased vehicle, I keep all documentation of everything I do, and the powertrain warranty covers the entire lease. If their recommendations are crappy then that's their problem.

Agreed...more people today tend to keep cars just 3-5 years anyway, especially with the constant technology advances. I used to have delusions of babying my vehicles so they would last forever...and looking back over 44 years of owning cars, I have never owned one for more than 5 years.

My wife drives this NX 10K miles per year. There's no reason she couldn't keep it for 10 years. That's why I'm playing it safe.

I totally get that. And if were going to keep the NX I'd likely do the same.

My last car - a 2001 Acura CL Type S - had 160K+ miles on it when I traded it for the NX. It was nice not having a car payment for years! She was my baby, but she started to get what I call "car leprosy", so it was time for her to go to the CarMax in the sky. I always changed the oil at 5K (or less) intervals.

I am new to Lexus and curious to know.... does the NX's Multi-Information Display notify the owner when it's time to have service and what services are due?
