Hi Corrado, I am a newbie here from Toronto. Currently driving a BMW X1 and am looking to get a slightly bigger ride. Initial thoughts were to get the new RX, but have also started looking at the NX. We live in Toronto in the city, so the slimmer NX likely is better for parking and driving in the common laneway between houses. Any initial impressions / comparisons between the NX and the new RX? Also, are there any major differences between the 15/16/17 NX? I am trying to price out a new NX and also looking at low mileage (~20K or less) 15s and 16s with better packages for same or less. If this is a long-term buy and hold, should I care for the 17 vs a preowned? Also, if I am allowed to ask - do you have a preferred dealer in Toronto that you could recommend?

Thanks, Sunil.

Still a little early to compare NX and RX, but initial impressions are as follows:

- NX's shorter wheelbase provides better handling and city maneuvering, but the RX's ride is more composed over bumps.
- RX is a little more quiet in particular wind noise suppression at higher speeds (thanks in part, to the sound-reducing Lamisafe front side glass)
- Build quality is similar, both very high, though the RX has slightly nicer lower dash/door plastic and real aluminum F Sport trim
- NX's launch is soft (turbo lag), RX's V6 is responsive and slightly smoother (NX though is smooth for a 4-banger)
- Tranny, I prefer the NX's 6-speed since the RX's 8-speed hunts for 7-8th gear at highway speeds under load/slight incline
- Fuel economy is better on the NX, but requires 91 octane which for us here is a 20% premium over 87. So fuel costs are about even for both.
- NX has a slight engine vibration under certain conditions around 700 rpm. RX has some slight drone at high gear (8th speed) between 75-100 km/hr
- RX has the gorgeous 12.3" screen where you can easily view in detail two items at once like the map and radio
- RX's rear seat and cargo are roomier (of course) but it's also 10" longer than the NX!

Styling aside, you have to ask yourself if size/room, V6 power, a little more tech, slightly better interior materials, and smoother quieter ride are worth the extra 15K.

If you want to stick to the NX, I would strongly recommend a '15 F Sport Series 2 or '16/'17 Series 3. It's the priciest trim but it comes with AVS (Adaptive Variable Suspension) if you want the smoothest ride along with other bells and whistles like HUD. Besides some minor packaging differences, 15-17 are mechanically the same.

As for dealer, I strongly recommend Erin Park Lexus. I can point you to my sales rep - PM me for more details.

Happy shopping!
