Default Scuff Plates

Not sure if anyone realizes, the NX does not come with any scuff plates. Any idea where to get decent ones that fit?

Couldn't believe it, either. Other Lexus models do have them. The dealer said Lexus has no kick plate that is offered for the NX, & none from other models that could be 'safely installed, or that would fit properly'. Maybe someone knows of an aftermarket fix that fits correctly.

Can't remember the last car purchased that didn't have one. Amazing. The dealer also put the Clear Bra plastic in all the door jams, on door edges, in door handle recesses & where the kick plates should be for protection. It's working so far. Hard hits have caused no marks, scuffs, or tears.

What are scuff plates? Are they the metal pieces on the bottom of the door and boot? I have both on mine:

Taking reference to the LEXUS word on the Stainless Steel, the area to its left is what we were asking about.

That area would typically have a piece of material, some are plastic some are a combination of plastic and stainless steel to prevent scuffs on the paint. However, this is somehow omitted on the NX but continues to be present in all other ranges of the LEXUS vehicles. It is also no made available as an option in the accessory list.

Oh I see. Yeah my Toyota has something there!

I was thinking of cutting some clear adhesive and wrapping that area.

As I wrote earlier, the dealer cut & placed clear bra material on where the scuff plates should be and
yes, it works great so far. No marks or problems.

Ditto. Seems to work just fine. Still seems like an oversight though.

Unfortunately, I think Lexus has left out the area without scuff plate on purpose. Originally I thought it was an oversight but when you look at Mercedes C-class, for example, they have no scuff plate for the rear. So Lexus follows the same mentality as the German car manufacturers. They think that is a good area for cost cutting.

To add to the solution of using clear bra film for the exposed area, eBay has some choices of stainless steel scuff plates with 3M adhesive. Not sure how they fit well but they would be a consideration if I am getting an NX. I would still add a clear bra beneath where the scuff plates are applied in case if the metal hits the paint.

Some choices are

Saw these on the online stores too, the end result looks really undesirable aka afterthought application

I'd be more concerned with how long before they start rusting...

scuff plates???? Never heard of them. I just checked my NX which I've had for more than a year and don't see anything on the paint. Narry a scratch, scuff, scrap or anything. I don't see the need. Those ebay metal strips look like hell.

I ordered them $55. Looked good to me. So I can stop telling passengers to keep their feet off the painted area.
If they look like hell, will not install or return.

Please let us know how the install goes. The only concern is whether the edge of the piece would come into contact with the paint, despite there are strips of 3M adhesive. If it does, some micro marring may develop over time (it is the reason I would still apply clear bra for the area)
