Using your logic...the RX should not sell...yet it is the best selling vehicle in the segment. ES should not sell...best selling vehicle in the segment. The RX and ES make up over half of Lexus' total sales...and are derived from Toyota chassis with Toyota power trains so why would nobody buy an NX because its derived from the Rav4?
275HP is tremendous for a small SUV lol. Bear in mind the 2.0 Q5 gets 220hp. The Q5 3.0 TFSI only gets 272HP.
HP is only part of it. The Rav4 is a very cheap, dowdy driving appliance. Its not going to even be comparable to an NX.
Yeah, then I doubt people will trade in their 12 Rav4 V6 for it, neither does any with 275 hp RX 350 with more space
You just don't understand this segment of vehicle, but you have to recognize people are buying small luxury SUVs with less power than a V6 Rav4 every day already, its a very popular segment. Look at the Q5, they are everywhere and almost every one I see is the 2.0 with only 220hp. Look at the X3, most of them are the 28i with only 240hp.
Different segment but look at the Rav4...why do you think they d/c'd the V6? Nobody bought it.

The compact luxury CUV segment is still hot right now. With X3, GLK, Q5, and RDX. The NX with the Lexus badge should do well. I saw the new Lincoln MKC at the auto show on Monday and it looks very nice in person and should sell well provided Lincoln can generate interest in it.

I haven't seen anything about Toyota coming out with a hybrid RAV4 anytime soon and I'm wondering whether their strategy is to entice RAV owners, especially those who bought 4-cylinder cars either by choice or default, to upgrade to a baby Lexus.

Had to pick up a new key for moms new honda. They are a BMW dealership also... X3 m sport 3.0 inside. After hearing how crappy the interior was I was amazed. It was very nice. In fact it was a huge improvement over my 50k 2011 rx350. 300hp 50k... The x3 with the 2.0 was 43k window sticker. I hope that the estimates of a 50k price for the NX are wrong as the competition is way lower than that and their interior is a step above a 50k rx350. Salesman saw my lexus and said that BMW has service included in price. What??? I have 8k in service cost over 7 years 120k miles with my is350 and that 8k doesn't include tires.

You pay for it, just in the price of the vehicle. In my experience optioned similarly BMWs are about $10,000 more expensive than a comparable Lexus.

That 8k was not including tires... I am confused how or why Lexus would price this anywhere near 50k if they are going to spec it with 240hp and a lower quality interior than rx350. I am not replacing rx with nx. Was thinking of replacing is350 with nx and then replacing rx with a gs-f

^^ there are a few things we need to get straightened out.
The bmw only comes with 4 years/50 thousand miles of free maintenance.
Your new lexus will come with 2 free maintenance included, at 5K and at 10K (oil change). The bmw will only require 1 year/10K mile visits while lexus recommends every 5K, basically to top off fluid and rotate tires. In essence, you can skip them.
In my experience, the service cost for newer lexus models is about $150-200 dollars. So assuming you don't go through your brakes in 4 years, you are only spending at most 800 dollars on maintenance,
As for the cost of the NX, it is slotting under the RX so I am assuming a starting price of 35K. The RX has the opportunity to move a bit upmarket next generation, probably coming in the low 40s.

What did you spend $8k on in maintenance to an IS?!?
Why would you assume that its going to have a lower quality interior than the RX350? I would imagine that the RX will go upmarket some and get larger with the NX in the lineup. $50k would be an absolutely loaded NX. Go to BMW.com and price the X3. Prices on dealer stocked cars look good, but when you compare them feature for feature those cars are very lightly featured. I just priced a X3 3.5 X Drive with leather and the M Sport package. Its $50k as you said. That car doesn't even have navigation, smart key entry/start or heated seats. When I add the technology package, premium package and cold weather package that would be comparable to a loaded NX the price is...$56,075.
As for HP...again look at the competition. Q5 is over $50k loaded with the 3.0 @ 240hp. Guess what a 240 HP X3 28i with those options stickers for? $52,875.

I have a 2013 Rx on a 3 yr lease which is about half over. I'm speculating by the time my lease is up the new RX will be out or known. Speculation is it will be bloated up to accommodate a third row like the Highlander was in 2008. I want no part of a mini van RX hence my planning on an NX as a replacement especially since it will be available with the hybrid system. Of course this is all pending on seeing and driving the real NX and new RX. This time frame will also give the NX a year to be on the market. I never want to buy a first yr vehicle.

I am looking forward to seeing the new NXh in any case. Maybe the dealer will let me drive one as a loaner sometime.

I was not home when I typed the 8K service number. The service cost on my 2005 RX330 was $8,488 over the 100K miles I owned it. That did not include the cost of tires as the dealership included a free tire for life warranty. Just paid for mounting and balancing of said free tires.
The IS350 service bill is at 10,179.48 and I haven't completed the 120K service yet as the odo is at 119,197. This also includes the same free tires for life warranty. I am not complaining and know there are other cheaper options for service. I am happy with the level of service I get and there is always a loaner car there for me. This is what my is350 needed so far.
5K service free
10K service 180.50
15K service 341.54
20K service 465.33 included mount an balance front tires and alignment
25K service 163.47
30K service 624.00
35K service 181.17
40K service 548.12 included mount and balance front tires and alignment
(warranty replaced front wheel bearings)
45K service 433.53
50K service 173.54
55K service 192.66
60K service 1,769.32 included brake pads flush brake fluid, mount and balance 4 tires and alignment
65K service 279.06
70K service 407.21 included new battery and spark plugs ( I know I got a deal due to the valve spring recall being done at the same time so plug install was free)
75K service 439.88
80K service 244.27 fuel injector throttle body cleaning
85K service 170.11
90K service 1,877.30 included complete brake job rotors and pads plus fluid flush. mount and balance 4 tires and alignment. warranty replacement of wheel hubs and cam gears
95K service 171.15
100K service 357.88 included new hid headlight bulb
105K service 454.78 included other hid headlight bulb
110K service 163.27
115K service 541.56 included spark plugs, pcv valve, rear diff service. These were done before the 120K service due to the dealership completing the Cam gear recall. These other services were discounted due to the recall.
There you have it... $10K spent in the service department not including 5 sets of front tires and 2 sets of rear tires. If we are comparing 40K miles for service I have about $2,600 spent by that point. Again, I am very happy with my dealership and would recommend them to all my friends and family.
