I have never used it with Apple devices, do not own one, I used it as standalone music/audio player, which is what it is. It has its own audiophile DAC that sounds far better than car's stock DAC built into the factory radio. I just loaded 80GB of music files on it and never bothered, 80GB of music is a lot of music When I needed to play a new file, I just plugged USB drive into VML and it played it right away no loading required.
