'04 IS300 OBDII Code 980 -- Cause?
My '04 IS300 has begun to flash panel lights and register Code 980 shift solenoid problems on the OBDII port. Sometimes the steady "Check Engine" and flashing "Trac Off" lights go out after I drive 25 miles or so; other times, I have a "hard" failure, though no symptoms ever appear: no missed or hard shifts, no lack of performance...nothing unusual. Just the pesky panel lights and Code 980 on the OBDII readout. What could be the problem(s)? Am I risking a tranny failure if this isn't 'fixed'?

As mysteriously as these symptoms appeared, they have completely vanished. I guess we'll never know what caused the light show in the instrument cluster. I've driven nearly two thousand (2,000) miles since the last time CEL and TRAC OFF lit up, and I've driven the car no differently than I had when these indicators continually lit, and the OBDII port signaled a P0980 trouble code.
