power window stuck?
Hello all,
Yesterday my driver side back door power window ceased to go up. I do seem to have power to switch and all fuses are good. The window will not move an inch and its stuck half way open. The car is an 92 ls400, im thinking the motor may be bad but not sure . If anyone has any tips on how to get the window to go up id greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Barry

this happened in my SSEi. same scenario, even the same window. I had to replace the motor.
The brushes in the motor were almost gone. With no load on the motor, it would work. The weight of the window was greater than the motor with bad brushes could handle. The brushes are wicked easy to get to, but you can't buy just the brushes.
I would assume that the Lexus replacement motor would be the same situation in that you have to replace the motor and not just the brushes. Seems like a lot of money for a $4.00 part ($8.00 cause there are always 2 brushes to replace). You might be able to, if you know where/who makes the motor and find out where the original brushes are made/ or by whom. Or remove the worn brushes and match them up at an electronics depot type store or Radio Shack.
For the SSEI the motor was $120 and the install took less than a half hour. I would think Lexus wouldn't be that far off. Also check with toyota, the motor may also be used in some of those cars and be less money.
If you DIY, it doesn't hurt to put some white grease or lithium grease on the tracks while you are in there.
good luck,
